Institute of Power Engineering (IEn)

is offering:

Scholarship and stipend (limited to PhD candidates or MSc students) under the role of Co-investigator in the Department of High Temperature Electrochemical Processes, Center for Hydrogen Technologies CTH2

Institute of Power Engineering is opening a position for a researcher who will be involved in the project as a Co-investigator - a member of the research team. The winning candidate will receive a stipend, and will be responsible for research activities within the project Investigation of high temperature co-electrolysis of carbon dioxide and steam in solid oxide electrochemical cells operated at elevated pressure (SUPER-SOE) which received financing from the National Science Centre through SONATA BIS programme.

The project is led by Prof. Jakub Kupecki and is carried out at CTH2 with collaboration with international partner - the National Fuel Cell Research Center, University of California, Irvine (team of Prof. Jack Brouwer).

Main activities of Co-investigator will be focused on numerical activities related with development and implementation of the solid oxide cell model operating both in electrolysis and co-electrolysis modes.
In order to calibrate model and determine proper operating conditions, Co-investigator will focus on detailed analysis of literature on experimental activities related to high temperature electrolysis of H2O and CO2. After preparation of the model, the Co-investigator will help in selecting suitable experimental data from the current literature in order to preliminary validate the prepared numerical tool. When the average prediction error of the model will not exceed 5%, numerical activities will be focused on helping in creation of numerical platform simulating operation of Power-to-X system based on SOE/co-SOE stacks integrated with Sabatier and Fischer-Tropsch reactors. Acquired skills and knowledge during the project will be used by the Co-investigator to complete a Master or PhD thesis.

The workplace is Augustówka 36, 02 981 Warsaw, Poland at the Department of High Temperature Electrochemical Processes. Part-time home office can be considered. The candidate will be part of
a research group with ten years of experience in the field of solid oxide cells. The group is supported by funds from national and international research projects, as well as collaboration with industry. Moreover, the team co- works with top-research groups worldwide on topics related to the hydrogen technologies. The laboratories of IEn are equipped with few testing rigs (measurement of single cells and SOC stack) and possesses all the necessary infrastructure to carry out the research in the highest standards.
