New designs, materials and manufacturing technologies of advanced solid oxide fuel cells

Coordinator: Institute of Power Engineering

Realization period: 1.09.2016 - 31.08.2019

UE contribution: 2 113 447,05 PLN

The main objective of this project is to develop new solutions for materials, designs for the technology of Solid Oxide Fuel Cells (SOFC) with anodic support (AS). NewSOFC is aiming at improving electrochemical characteristic of fuel cells (FC), increasing reliability and reducing costs of individual AS-SOFC as well as complete FC stacks. The area of the planed materials’ developments includes analysis of the influence of alternative sintering additives as electrolyte sintering helpers. Additional objective of the project is to refine the technology of fuel cells anode supports using inexpensive means of high-pressure injection molding.

In the field of fuel cell construction, project will include optimization of profiled anode supports, fine-tuning of intermediate layers and optimization of electrolyte with additives. In scope of this project glass-based seals dedicated for SOFC stack will be developed. Important project phase will be heat-flow (CFD) and mechanical (FEM) calculations of developed solutions. The produced fuel cells will be tested in short SOFC stack, the construction of which will be developed based on application of dedicated numerical methods and computer simulations.
