Publication Concept of a solid oxide electrolysis-molten carbonate fuel cell hybrid system to support a power-to-gas installation (Milewski, Zdeb, Szczesniak, Martsinchyk, Kupecki, Dybinski) focuses on advanced power-to-X systems which combine molten carbonate fuel cells (MCFC) with solid oxide electrolyzers (SOE).

The concept, at the level of single cell was studied in frame of OPUS project The development and studies of hybrid SOE/MCFC reactor for the synthesis of light hydrocarbons based on high temperature electrochemical processes (financially supported by the National Science Center under grant agreement 2017/25/B/ST8/00869) while the system was built as a part of TENNESSEE project Development of the industrial scale of molten carbonate fuel cells and solid oxide electrolysers for integration into power-to-gas installations (financially supported by the National Centre for Research and Development under grant agreement POIR.01.02.00-00-0281/16).

The first-of-a-kind TENNESSEE systems is based on a patented concept which was developed jointly by TAURON Wytwarzanie, Center for Hydrogen Technologies - CTH2 Institute of Power Engineering, and Warsaw University of Technology (PL434902A1: System of devices for producing a gas mixture containing methane, water vapor, carbon dioxide and hydrogen (2022) (Bernat, Kupecki, Milewski, Smolka, Zdeb).
