The Institute of Power Engineering, the Faculty of Management, the University of Warsaw and the Energy Club have once again joined efforts to direct the discussion on the development of the hydrogen economy in Poland. On May 11, 2023, a conference and presentation of the report "Hydrogen Economy Value Chain in Poland" was held at the University of Warsaw.

The report reaches for the concept of the value chain as a simple way to present a model for delivering value to the consumer in the hydrogen economy, showing:

  • hydrogen production methods;
  • storage methods;
  • the method of transportation;
  • methods of distribution;
  • its various applications.

Each of the above-mentioned elements was assessed in terms of:

  • technological readiness measured TRL, emissivity measured in CO2/kg of hydrogen and price of 1 kg of hydrogen production, storage, transport and use;
  • regulatory changes, analysed by a filter of such regulations as REPowerEU, New Gas Package, RED Directive + delegated acts (FRNBO, RFC), EU taxonomy + delegated act, etc.;
  • market developments, including the sensitivity of the cost of hydrogen production to the prices of electricity carriers and natural gas, the expected price of electrolysis technologies, and
  • detailed breakdown and analysis of the cost structure of hydrogen production in different methods and in other parts of the value chain.

As part of the event, the national solid oxide technology of electrolysers and fuel cells was also presented - Polish Product of the Future created at the Center for Hydrogen Technologies (CTH2).
