Main tasks of the IEN are related to extended CFD simulations of the aluminium melting furnace and developing its digital twin for further performance optimisations. On top of that, IEN will develop the new concept of the 75MW multifuel burner for rotary kiln furnace, installed in the cement factory in Portugal.
RETROFEED is the project funded by the European Commission under the Horizon 2020 program. The main RETROFEED objective is to enable the use of an increasingly variable, bio-based and circular feedstock in process industries (steel, ceramic, cement, aluminium and agrochemical) through the retrofitting of core equipment and the implementation of an advanced monitoring and control system, and providing support to the plant operators by means of a Decision Support System covering the production chain.
