On November 6-10, the 17th SDEWES (Conference on Sustainable Development of Energy, Water and Environment Systems) was held in Paphos, Cyprus. During the conference, the results of the work of the HYDROGIN project consortium were presented: Modular installation of reversible solid oxide cells planned for integration with an industrial power plant to improve the flexibility of its operation and increase the use of renewable energy sources in the power sector (2020-2023).
On November 6-10, the 17th SDEWES (Conference on Sustainable Development of Energy, Water and Environment Systems) was held in Paphos, Cyprus. During the conference, the results of the work of the HYDROGIN project consortium were presented: Modular installation of reversible solid oxide cells planned for integration with an industrial power plant to improve the flexibility of its operation and increase the use of renewable energy sources in the power sector (2020-2023). The aim of the project is to build a unique on a European scale energy storage installation, the heart of which is a stack of solid oxide electrochemical cells, based on the technology of the Institute of Power Engineering, working alternately as a vapour electrolyser and a fuel cell linked with the turbine of the BB25p biomass unit in the Elbląg Combined Heat and Power Plant (Energa Grupa Orlen). This makes centrally dispatched generation units more flexible. The conference was attended by prof. Jakub Kupecki, Director of the Institute of Power Engineering and Coordinator of the IEn Center for Hydrogen Technologies (CTH2).

The HYDROGIN project (POIR.01.01.01-00-0335/19) received funding from the National Centre for Research and Development, it is implemented in a consortium of the M. Faraday Research and Development Centre (Orlen Group) and the Institute of Fluid-Flow Machinery of the Polish Academy of Sciences. The Institute of Power Engineering is a key subcontractor that has designed, built and in December 2022 will start operating the rSOC installation at EC Elbląg.
