On 31.05-02.06.2023, in Słok near Bełchatów a scientific and technical conference „The role of conventional units in the era of evolution of the energy sector” was held. Conference was organized by PGE GiEK S.A. Bełchatów Power Plant Branch and SEP Circle at PGE GiEK S.A. Bełchatów Power Plant Branch, which was devoted to the directions of development of energy regions and the role of conventional energy in the face of the development of a low-emission economy in Poland.

During the conference, Jarosław Hercog, PhD, Deputy Director for Cooperation and Development, presented the publication entitled „Possibilities of using hydrogen in the Bełchatów Power Plant” by Jarosław Hercog, PhD Eng and Bartosz Świątkowski, PhD Eng.
The paper discusses the legal environment and European and Polish initiatives related to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and achieving climate neutrality and the resulting consequences for the conventional energy sector in Poland. Subsequently, the possibilities of co-combustion of hydrogen and ammonia in pulverized boilers were analysed, and finally fuel costs and requirements related to the logistics of hydrogen fuels were estimated.
