In 2023, the Łódź ITC Branch participated in Researchers’ Night at the EC1 Science and Technology Center in Łódź, presenting lectures and research demonstrations focused on the phenomenon of sound. The result of this event is a series of three popular science films, which explain topics related to acoustics, its impact on humans, and the inspiration science draws from nature — all in an accessible and engaging way.
Sound in Everyday Life
The first film in the series introduces viewers to the world of sound — explaining what it is, the levels of sound we encounter daily, and how it affects our emotions, concentration, and well-being. The film also features an expert from the EC1 Science and Technology Center, who shares insights into how sounds shape our everyday experiences.
The Anechoic Chamber at Łódź ITC
The second film takes viewers to a unique space — the anechoic chamber, where sound is almost completely absent. This special room is used in acoustic research, allowing scientists to study how sound behaves in conditions of total silence.
Why Do Owls Fly Silently?
The third film combines science and nature. At the Łódź ITC Branch, a model of an owl’s wing was created to study the phenomenon of its nearly silent flight. These studies help scientists better understand how solutions observed in nature can inspire the development of modern technologies, for example in acoustics or aerodynamics.
The series was created to present the topics of sound, its influence on humans, and its significance in research conducted by the Łódź ITC Branch in an engaging and accessible way. It’s a great example of how science can be fascinating, relatable, and close to our everyday lives.
