On June 11, 2024, the German Embassy in Warsaw hosted another meeting as part of the “Warsaw Climate Talks” discussion series, organized by the German Embassy in Warsaw and the Reform Institute think tank. The aim of the series is to discuss the conditions for energy transformation in Poland and Germany and possible paths leading to the EU achieving climate neutrality by 2050.
The June meeting was attended by Deputy Director for Cooperation and Development Dr. Jaroslaw Hercog. The meeting focused on the optimal structure of the energy mix and experiences in the energy transition of Poland and Germany. The meeting was opened by H.E. Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Poland Viktor Elbling with a speech on the need to develop RES, reformat the energy mix and develop systemic energy connections between the countries. The introduction to the panel discussion on energy transition was provided by papers by Urszula Zielińska, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Climate and Environment, and Jennifer Morgan, Secretary of State and Commissioner for International Climate Policy at the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs, who presented plans, achievements and experiences in the implementation of climate goals by Poland and Germany.
The event was wrapped up by an expert debate on the challenges of the energy transition in Poland and Germany, which included representatives of Polish and German ministries, employers' organizations and think tanks.
