The Institute of Power Engineering was among five research institutes nominated for this year's Kryształowa Brukselka award. This award has been granted since 2001 for successes in the EU Framework Programs for Research and Innovation. It is a special distinction for participation in international research and development projects, innovation and contribution to the development of Polish science and economy. This year's award was a summary of the last 20 years of Poland's participation in the EU Framework Programs.

On 30-31 May 2018, the IFRF2018 Conference "Clean, efficient and safe industrial combustion" was held in Sheffield, UK. During the conference, one could listen to papers on the development of low-emission gas burners, Power-to-gas technology and adding hydrogen to gas networks, modern measurement techniques (based on Laser Induced Phosphorescence), development of oxy-fuel technology, new EC directive for medium combustion plants and issues related to the implementation of CCS technology.

On the 5-6 th of June 2018 Summer Strategy Meeting of the European Energy Research Alliance EERA Executive Committee took place in Dubiecko near Rzeszów. The Institute of Power Engineering was the host of the meeting that was organized jointly with the EERA Secretariat.

The Institute of Power Engineering was among five institutions nominated for the title of Technical Security Leader 2017 in the category of "research and development units and universities" broadcasted by the Office of Technical Inspection. The awards ceremony took place during Technical Safety Leader Gala 2017, on May 23 2018 at MCC Mazurkas in Ożarów Mazowiecki. The diploma was accepted by prof Tomasz Gałka, director of IEn.

On the 17-18th of May 2018, the XVI Symposium of the National Council of Coordinators of EU Research Projects (KRAB) took place in Wrocław. During the Symposium Andrzej Sławiński (PhD) presented his paper entitled "European projects implemented by the Institute of Power Engineering".

In a higly ranked magazine ENERGY (IF 4.520) there was published the article entitled: Variant analysis of the efficiency of industrial scale power station based on DCSOFCs and DC-MCFCs. The authors are researchers from the Department of High Temperature Electrochemical Processes (CPE) – Jakub Kupecki (PhD), Marek Skrzypkiewicz and Konrad Motyliński.
