What is the Department of Control, Information and Communication Technology?
The Department of Control, Information and Communication operates within the Gdansk branch of the Institute of Power Engineering - National Research Institute and is active in the development of Smart Grid electricity networks.
What does the Department of Control, Information and Communication Technology do?
The department conducts research and development, analysis, consultancy and design activities in this area. The department also offers state-of-the-art equipment and IT systems, and supervises their installation and commissioning. It specialises in solutions for remote monitoring and control of equipment in MV and LV power grids, and deals with issues of communication and communication standards in the power industry, including issues related to ICT security. The Department's activities also include the following issues: flexibility services for the power grid, voltage control in LV networks with a large share of prosumer installations and the use of AMI metering systems to regulate voltage in LV networks with transformers with on-load tap changers (PPZ, OLTC). The department has developed, implemented and for many years developed the Dynamic Line Load (DOL) system to increase the transmission capacity of the HV and LV networks. This system is used by all major distribution network operators (DSOs) in Poland, as well as the transmission network operator (TSO).
